SCHOOL VISIT (for individuals and groups) This is a starter program for teachers to “get a taste” of the education system in the United States without committing to a long-term assignment or contract and may be done during the holiday period in the teacher’s home country so as to obviate taking leave or resigning from their job. The SCHOOL VISIT would typically last for 4 weeks during which the visiting teacher is assigned to “shadow” one or more American cooperating teachers and will be involved in observation of American classes in his/her subject and grade level area and will also allow the teacher to participate in the planning of and delivery of daily lessons. LOCATION OF PROGRAM—Visiting teachers will be placed in schools, colleges and universities nationwide based on availability and the background and preferences of the teacher(s) applying. PROGRAM DATES—are generally from September through May each year, following the American school year, although some placements may be possible during summer school from June through August. LOGISTICS—The visiting teacher has the option of choosing a host family where two meals per day are provided or may opt to stay in a hostel or apartment. TRANSPORTATION--Participants are expected to use public transportation in the community to go to school on a daily basis and are responsible for their own airfare and transportation costs to their assigned community in the United States. INSURANCE—health and accident insurance coverage is required and will be covered in the program fee. COST—The program fee will vary depending on the requirements of the applicant and may be met by direct payment to ASIAMERICA or through our work-study option for teachers who are interested in this option. The exact cost or possibility of participating free in our work-study arrangement will be communicated to you once you have submitted a preliminary enquiry/application. Discounts are offered for visiting teacher groups. VISA—The B-1/2 visitors visa is suggested for this short-term program and the cost of the visa must be borne by the applicant. This is a exchange opportunity for qualified international educators to teach as full-time faculty members at American public and private educational institutions from one to three years as a cultural exchange participant. While it is possible to apply directly to participate in this program the majority of those selected come through the SCHOOL VISIT PROGRAM as we have the occasion to interview and observe the teacher literally “in action” in the American classroom and academic community and can therefore better make a satisfactory placement. LOCATION OF PROGRAM—Visiting teachers will be placed in schools, colleges and universities nationwide based on availability and the background and preferences of the teacher(s) applying. PROGRAM DATES—are generally from August through June each year, following the American school year, although some placements may be possible during summer school from June through August. LOGISTICS—The teacher participants has the option of living with a paid host family where two meals per day are provided or may opt to stay in a hostel or apartment. Asiamerica will assist with the room and board arrangement and options. TRANSPORTATION--Participants may in some locations be able to use public transportation to go to school on a daily basis but it is strongly suggested that all participants arrange to buy or lease a car during their stay and this being the main reason a valid driver’s license is required of all applicants. Round-trip international airfare is normally provided for all teachers who fulfill their contract commitments INSURANCE—health, accident , disability and optional dental insurance coverage for those accepted and taking part in the program. REMUNERATION-- All participants receive a competitive stipend which
varies depending on the location in which you work (US$ 25,000 to
